Crime Numbers
Mississippi does not have a Unified Crime Reporting (UCR) Program or provide crime statistics for its counties. The Federal Bureau of Investigation does provide some crime data for Harrison County. However, the data only collects figures from local law enforcement agencies contributing to the FBI UCR program. The FBI UCR report shows that there were 2 murders, 5 rapes, 10 robberies and 24 aggravated assaults in Harrison County in 2017. Reported property crime figures include 237 burglaries, 547 larceny thefts, 117 motor vehicle thefts, and 6 arsons.
A comparison of the FBI’s 2017 and 2013 crime data for the county reveals a 50% drop in the murder rate, a 58.3% reduction in recorded rape cases, and an 88.2% decline in aggravated assaults rate in Harrison County. In the same five-year period, robbery rate increased by 42.9% while motor vehicle theft (31.5%) and larceny-theft (0.74%) rates also rose. On the other hand, burglary and arson rates dropped by 0.84% and 80.6% respectively.
